As we all get swept away with Christmas shopping this is a good reminder to keep us grounded. I always try to pause now before a purchase and ask myself a very simple question: "do I really need this?"

Meatless Monday {week 23}

So we’re into week 23 of Meatless Monday… I’m starting to feel festive, we went to Waddesdon Manor Christmas experience at the weekend and it was just beautiful and got me properly in the mood. This weekend I’m planning to get the tree, from the farmer at the top of the hill in our village. It’s such a lovely tradition, you get to go out with him into his field and pick which one you want and then they’ll deliver it down to you later that day, then I just get all of my Christmas bits and pieces down from the loft, get some Christmas TV of choice on, usually involving Kirstie Allsopp as her Christmas spirit is just too infectious and get my Christmas on! I’m quite looking forward to it.

In terms of present organisation this year I thought I would share with you because it really helps me take the stress out of it all… There are a million and one apps you can get to track your spending and your present allocation over the festive period but this year I’ve decided to go back to basics and do an excel sheet of spending and use a private Pinterest board to collate both present ideas and the ones I decide to go with. I have included the template I have used in excel below in the hope you may find it helpful too. I have left the formula sums in there as a guide.

    1. Hi Ana, see first hyperlink in this post back to week 1 and the video which inspired me, uploaded by up worthy. I’d love to have more veggie recipes, please send them across x

  1. You’re so organized! I would never have thought of using a Pinterest board to pull ideas together – great idea. Love the quote. I’ve been trying to live this. Seems like I appreciate things more when I buy less. Thanks!

  2. We do meatless most of the time – I think maybe twice a week we have chicken. But, right now we have TONS of extra from the turkey we roasted this weekend. We do a second turkey after Thanksgiving, it gives plenty of stock for the freezer, turkey soup, and turkey pot pie. I love the Amy’s soups – and turn to them often when I need something quick!

  3. Sorry you were feeling well for your meatless Monday. I’ve never actually done a meatless day before. I think I could easily do it if I could find some fun recipes to take the place of what we might typically have. I haven’t heard either of those songs before, either.

  4. I’ve never heard of meatless mondays before. I’m a vegetarian but my family aren’t. Might be good for us to have a veggie day once a week. Thanks for the idea

  5. I use the good old traditional method of tracking gift spending – my notebook. With six kids, it is important to keep track of what I spend on each one. If I don’t write it down – there are too many numbers floating in my head.

  6. Your tree service sounds absolutely delightful and yay for old-school spreadsheets (sometimes things don’t need to be improved upon). Hope you’re feeling better by now and that you have a great rest of the week!

  7. I love how you go out and get a tree. We did that once when I was a kid and I still remember it. We will get ours this weekend too, but probably from Costco. : ) I love your meatless meals. The tomato soup sounds really good. I like mine with grilled cheese. Ok, now I’m hungry…

  8. I like the David Orr quote the best, and what a much better world we would have if his words were realized. Lately, I’ve been really down about the state of the world and everything that I’ve been seeing in the news. I’m also a fan of Amy’s Kitchen Organics soups – yum!
