Self Care is always important and I think people are starting to realise how it isn’t a selfish choice at all, in fact quite the contrary as if you are happy, healthy and well rested then you in turn will have the ability to serve others in a positive way. It is also a topic which is even more important during lock down (especially with kids) as you have to work hard to find the time for yourself and look after yourself when you do, but if you, you just feel like a different person. So I thought in this post I would share with you some of my self care favourites in the hope that it might inspire you to make your own list and start carving out time to look after yourself too.

- Body Oil with Essential Oils {£13.99}: And worth every penny. This is something which I have only really got into relatively recently, and is a swap from regular body lotion, this is far more natural and luxurious and a little goes a long way so it last for months. It is my ritual when I get out of the shower or bath to moisturise with this oil, at the same time as using my reflexology ball and to give myself a neck and shoulder and foot massage too before bed. If you haven’t tried this, I highly recommend for a bit of self pampering. And side note I just love the smell of this oil 🙂
- Neal’s Yard Organics Bubble Bath {£15.47}: Here’s one to put on your Birthday/Christmas/Mothers Day list, that’s how I got it and it really is pamper heaven. I usually only manage a candle lit bubble bath a couple of times a month, but it is my absolute luxury when I do and the smell of this Neal’s Yard Organics bubble bath is just heavenly and lasts forever too as you only need a lidful for a wonderful bath.
- Naturally Scented Candles {£12.99}: This is just an example of a nice looking one I found on Amazon, but I love naturally scented candles both for smell and the light they give off. My favourites are natural vanilla, lavender/essential oils, or fruity and seasonally Christmas spice ones are always lovely too. TK Maxx is a great place for them. I use them when I have a bath, or even when I have a shower and love using them whilst doing my evening zoom yoga class too, they instantly make me feel calmer and happier 🙂
- Clay Face Mask {£12.99}: This is one which I recently found on Amazon and love, and the pot is massive, so it will last a long time, is all natural ingredients and smells yummy too. Perfect for a bath time pamper.
- Incense Sticks {£2.99}: Budget friendly option to make any home smell like a spa. I discovered these when I went to India on a yoga retreat in my 20s and have loved them ever since, as does every yoga teacher I know.
- Lavender Essential Oil {£12.99}: No household should be without a bottle in my opinion. The smell is amazing and it has so many uses, from putting on your pillow, into the palms of your hands to calm anxiety, on your laundry to make your drawers smell amazing, or added to a bath, along with Epsom salts and white vinegar for an amazing home spa detox and calming effect.
- Good Mug {£19.95}: I have a bit of a thing for a quality mug, it really does make a difference, in my opinion, to the quality of your cuppa. If I had to pick of all my favourite mugs then Emma Bridgewater ones are my fave. I love the shape, the quality and the design. Might just treat myself to this one as I love the message and design. You can often find seconds on eBay and in TK Maxx and then there’s the Emma Bridgewater seconds shop too and to the untrained eye you wouldn’t know the difference but can save on the cost 🙂
- Favourite Tea Bags {£1.75}: And with a lovely mug you have to have some lovely tea and this right here is my absolute favourite.
- PJs {£32.50 – just bottoms}: Now is it wrong that the clothes I generally spend the most money on are PJ bottoms! – I don’t think so personally as it is most certainly something which you can feel the quality in and I spend a good portion of my life in, especially since lock down, but a lot on weekend before that. I also do all my home yoga in my PJs. They are my happy trousers and the designs are just so beautiful I honestly don’t mind spending the money for the craftsmanship, my two favourite go to brands are FATFACE & Joules. I usually pair with a logo T of some description or in summer a cheap vest top from Primark or alike.
- Reflexology Ball {£8.99 for 3 pack}: This is something which I discovered relatively recently at a Mummy Wellbeing Yoga class and I bought one as I was so amazed by how my feet felt after using it, like they came alive, I know that sounds a bit weird but if you haven’t tried then I really recommend you do. It is also an excellent thing to have in the house to help when you have tight muscles or you’re recovering from other sports injuries.
- Sheepskin Slippers {£12.99}: Since discovering these slippers about 10 years ago I have never looked back. I always have 2 pairs on the go in the house at any given time and I have even bought 2 mini pairs for the boys. They are such a lovely traditional design and so comfy and due to being made of entirely natural fabric, your feet don’t overheat in them. They also make a great gift 🙂
- Wonder Boom Bluetooth Speaker {£40-£90}: One of my yoga teachers used one of these in class and I asked her about it because the sound was so good. It might seem like an odd choice for a self care list, but my husband and I both have one and we use it all the time. Music, Podcasts and Audiobooks are all high on my self care agenda and having this speaker and my equally as good Bluetooth Headphones, means that I can listen to all 3 easily and wherever, whenever and that’s why I love them so much and why they are on this list.
- Yoga Mat {£40.16}: Yoga at home has been completely transformative to my life in the past year or so and I make sure that I have a home practice everyday, almost without exception, having good equipment is so great to make sure that you just can enjoy practising even more, this is the best yoga mat which I have found to date, for the thickness is very comfortable, but for me the design on it is so beautiful but also practical to as I find it is laid out in such a clever way that it really helps with my alignment is all the main postures. Other things which I have got are yoga blocks, yoga bricks, yoga strap and eye pillow. The most important is the mat, but the other bits also come in handy, especially if you are practising regularly as it lets you get support with getting into more challenging postures. I always always feel better for practising yoga, even on the days which I don’t feel like it. It is such good self care for mind, body and soul.
- Amazon Fire {£99.99}: My husband kindly bought me one of these as a birthday present some years ago but it has really come into its own since having the boys as a way to watch Netflix/ iPlayer / TED Talks any time and any where. Connecting with media for me at a time which is convenient for me, whether that me whilst loading the dishwasher or in the bath is self care with two littles and not much time and I just love this tablet of all the ones on the market as it is actually affordable and does all the things which I need it to. It has also lasted me well 🙂
- Wooden Bath Caddy {£32.00): Turn your bath into your own personal cinema/ library with one of these bath caddies, I am such a fan, and it means to you rest your tablet or book somewhere safe so that you can enjoy it without worrying about it falling in the bath, happy days.
- Bamboo Sleep Mask {£8.90}: As you will know if you have been following me for a while, I have had ongoing issues with insomnia since the boys, and this is something which has really helped me. It means I can relax without being disturbed by outside light, it is also brilliant for travel. I love this one in particular as it is made of bamboo so doesn’t sweat at all. Good sleep is so incredibly important and I am all about natural ways to help get it, this is one which has worked for me 🙂
