Wishing For A Wedding Theme?

So, you’re getting married, you know you want ‘something special’ and ‘something different’, but you’re not quite sure what. Well, it’s your day, and you need to remember that, don’t worry about what other people think or what they say, this is going to be the best day of your life, and you need to have it exactly how you want it.

Choosing a wedding theme can be a difficult task, but once you’re set, then the rest of the planning will all stem from your theme, making all those decisions really easy and loads of fun.

So what exactly is a wedding theme? A wedding theme is an idea or a concept that flows throughout the whole day. It can be simple as your favourite colour or as specific as a favourite decade or movie. However, no matter what you choose, you don’t want to overcomplicate it. You want your guests to recognise the theme; you also want them to understand that this theme is personal to you.

Ideas For Themes

Perhaps there’s a time period which is significant to you or a decade that you love. For example, you could choose Ancient Greece as a theme, it’s romantic, it’s classy, it’s elegant, and it’s straightforward to do. With plenty of grapes and gold strewn throughout your venue, you could dress your ushers up like Spartans, and it’ll be easy to get tips to finding your perfect wedding dress in this theme.

You could go for something a little more ‘out there’ and choose a movie-inspired theme, something like the Great Gatsby could work really well. Not only does it combine one of the most memorable books and films, but it also has all of the glitz and glamour of the 1920s. Just imagine the over-the-top vintage jewellery, embellished ball gowns, and tonnes of bling for your decorations.

You could opt for something inspired by TV…and a little less glam? A Game of Thrones wedding theme offers endless possibilities. Your tables, invitations, and any other decorations can follow the various “houses” of the realm complete with colour scheme and emblems. The bride, groom, and guests all get to choose from a variety of long flowing lace, leathers, furs, and Celtic knot hairstyles. Oh – and you get to get married in a castle!

A Harry Potter theme could be a lot of fun, with tall candles and red napkins defining the dining hall, the houses are easy table names, and there’s plenty of room for wands and golden snitches.

If you’re a big fan of something like Harry Potter or Star Wars, then you probably don’t need much advice. With Star Wars there are also tonnes of ideas from hanging glow in the dark lightsabers from the ceiling, walking down the aisle to the imperial march, and dancing the night away to the Cantina Song. You could even have your ushers direct your guests to the Dark Side or the Light Side.

If you’re more into your books then a literary wedding could be the one for you, you could celebrate your big day with inspiration from literature’s most famous lovers like Romeo & Juliet or Tristan & Isolde. You could swap the standard table runner for pages from your favourite books and you could even ask your guests to come dressed as their favourite storybook character.

Perhaps music is more your thing? Think a gorgeous traditional gown with some cowboy boots, and a cute denim jacket draped around your shoulders. Country music, line dancing and a food truck and you’re on to a winner.

A rock concert or festival idea also gives you loads of avenues to be creative. Print your tickets, post your lineup, and tell your guests to expect a lot of loud music, dancing, and light show. Add some vintage microphone decorations, a glorious pyrotechnics show, and swap cutting the cake with lighting a guitar on fire.

If you want your wedding to be an actual event, then go for it! Plan something that your guests will look forward to, something they can interact with and experience something like never before. Let your guests know what’s to come and make sure they know that they’ll need energy and enthusiasm to appreciate what’s in store. Also, it’ would be really nice to give them suggestions and examples for outfits as well as a basic itinerary for the day so that they know how to pace themselves.
