GARDEN: Passion Flower Passion

image

These flowers really are the kind  which make you stop in your tracks and say “wow, did nature really make that?!” This was a 2 year in the growing example, which was bought from Morrisons for around  just £2 and definitely has been worth the wait!

But this wasn’t the first of the two i had to flower…

This, original  variety, flowered first about a month ago. But unfortunately  the rest of the pot was just bare soil around it and our newly outside cats decided this was an excellent place for a new litter tray! And as a result the whole plant died from the bottom up in a matter of days. 😕 I was completely gutted. But decided the way forward was to plant some alpines in the blank spaces, and add some rougher soil, and touch wood, this seems to have worked.

The great thing about alpines is they don’t have very deep roots but do have good ground coverage. So they were ideal for purpose. And I’ve replaced the original passion flower too with a hardier, more established, one from a local garden centre called Staples for around  £5, so not too much more  :).

Hopefully these will all thrive now. But gardening is always a bit of an experiment. Good luck everyone. Would  love your feedback and comments as always. Happy gardening :)???
