Hiroshima Day Ceremony and Lantern Floating

This is an event which is held annually at the Peace Pagoda on Willen Lake in Milton Keynes to mark the anniversary of Hiroshima in a positive way. It’s completely free of charge to attend and families and people of all ages are welcome. It is organised by the Buddhist Monks who live at the monastery next door and they have speakers from lots of different religious backgrounds who all agree with and are actively trying to promote peace. Just turn up, bring a picnic blanket or chair if you like and go and soak in the atmosphere. It’s beautiful every time I’ve been and I would highly recommend it to all, it’s as if the world just stands still for a moment and reflects. The lanterns are all hand decorated by local school children and there are plenty of beautiful designs. After the talks and Buddhist chanting everyone wonders down to the lake and floats out all the lanterns. It’s just stunning to watch and to be a part of.
