It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas {2015}

We’ve now got into a pretty lovely tradition of collecting our Christmas tree together from the Farmer at the top of our village. Going out into the field with him in our wellies and picking out our favourite and then bringing it back to the house to decorate always makes me happy. I love that we’re supporting such a local grower and that we do it together each year, there’s just something really magical about the whole thing.  When I saw this poster on Facebook this week it made me think of just this…

Now when it comes to decorating the tree I have a bit of a routine which I thought I would share with you pictorially below…
  • 1. Get the tree firmly in a solid stand and in position {this is a 2nd hand cast iron one which again comes out every year}
  • 2. Get all your tinsel out {again this is a selection of different donated and charity shop finds, the point is not to be fancy but to create depth} and tie them all together so you have one long piece - basic granny knot will do
  • 3. Make a loop at the top of your tinsel and start at the top of the tree and then wind round and round until you get to the bottom
  • 4. Finished tinsel!
  • 5. Test your lights work {I like to use 2 different types, one which flashes in different ways and one pretty flower string for decoration}
  • 6. Plug both sets of lights in behind the tree and then wrap them round and round from bottom to top
  • 7. This is my lovely ornament collection, each holds a memory and I do like to add to it each year little by little, it's also such a lovely gift to give a Christmas ornament, as they keep coming out every year :)
  • 8. I also love these beads and have several strings of them, they're very effective in adding yet another texture to the tree

  • 10. These crystal ornaments are some of my absolute favourites and a were a complete find at TK Maxx some years ago, I just love how the light reflects in them, but I do tend to hand them on a secure branch near the top of the tree as they are real glass
  • 11. I love these sets of ornaments, the apples from TK Maxx and just a bit difference from regular ball balls and the stars and hearts from a local garden centre called Frosts

  • I believe I found this in either Wilkos, Tescos or dotcomgiftshop last year
  • I found this little fella in Tescos and had to have him :)
  • Gisela Graham tree topper bought on eBay and totally worth it as comes out every year and makes the tree complete - cost around £16 from memory
  • This rather lovely snowman was a gift from my sister Kirsty :)

    Your tree is so stinkin cute! I also really love the shabby chic garland. I wish I could find something like it at the store as it would look great in my living room.

    What a wonderful tradition – and I am very familiar with it – My hubby and I used to go out and pick our tree from the 47 acres of heavily forested property I took care of – We no longer do that and I miss it.
    Your tree and routine for decorating is wonderful – thank you – and I didn’t think of Amazon for new and fun decorations – so nice 🙂

    I love your tree. My tradition is that every year I pick out another ornament that goes with my Irish / Celtic themed tree. Ornaments I have collected over the years that do not go on the tree usually go with the garland and decor I place around the entryways in the home.
