I have been dreaming of sorting out our hallway for a long time – but hopefully, this year is the year we will get it done at last so I thought it would be a good time to share my plans with you.

- Moroccan Lamps (also known as Turkish Lamps: This is actually one I managed to do ahead of time, I just love the design of them, especially in hallways. I managed to source us two different, but complementary, styles on eBay from Turkey. They did get caught in Turkish Customs for a couple of weeks, but it was 100% worth the wait, and we have loved them for years since.
- Feature Floor Tiles: I’ve always loved this look in hallways too – stemming from the Victorian Era, but now there are so many modern takes on this. I particularly love these Scintilla Black Star Pattern 45cm x 45cm Wall & Floor Tiles from Tiles Direct, which can be achieved for £18.95 per m² (for the tiles at least)
- Integrated Door Matt: This is another one which has been on my wish list for some time, but I knew there was no point in doing it until we got the floor re-done. But to have a nice thick mat which doesn’t move would be so great by the front door – practical and beautiful
- Under-stairs Storage: Really love clever storage, which hides everything away but is so neat and organised inside, it’s like a dream to me! Add in all my shoes, all my kids (twin 4 year olds) and husband too, nursery bags, shopping bags, accessories, more coats than I care to mention for every eventuality of the ever changing British weather and I constantly feel like I’m about to tear my hair out about the state of our hall. So this is a big one on my wish list! And I have found a local guy who I plan to use to build it for us, it’s going to cost around £1.5k but is honestly going to be life changing for the space, so an investment very much worth making to make sure that everything has an easy place to put away. I particularly like having hanging rails for coats, so much easier to see what you have that way rather than all piled on a few pegs as it is currently for ours (and I’m sure many of my readers too!).
- Built in Storage: This idea goes hand in hand with no 4 in that we will need to under-stairs storage storage sorted first before doing this, but I saw this example of a built dresser recently on Apartment Therapy (which is fabulous for finding all sorts of gorgeous interior ideas) with a bench seat and even more storage, to make a few chosen items sing,
- Painted Ombre Stairs: We had our stairs and staircase updated by a wonderful carpenter a few years ago, we got the balustrades painted, when we got the hall, landing and stairs painted around the same time. But I asked them to leave the stairs, so this is still on my list of projects to do and I hope to get it done at some point this year.
- Picture Wall Up the Stairs: Something which again has been on my wish list/to do list for a long time, and I know exactly what I want to display there too; travel photos and quotes, as we have been to some lovely places in the last 20 years, but currently all the photos just sit hidden on our PC, I would like to have at least one photo or piece of art from everywhere we have been with a label on the back detailing where it is from and the date we went there.
- 1930s Front Door: You may think of this as an exterior thing, but having a new front door is also going to be life-changing for the interior space too – to put something authentic and beautiful back in has been my dream since buying the house 10 years ago, and this is the year we plan to get this done!
