Melt Laundry Sheets – Product Review

I kept seeing laundry sheets brands on my Instagram feed, and it seemed to me it really has a possibility to be a break-through/ cross-over product in the Eco Market as it just makes so much sense to vastly reduce the packaging of what we use to wash our clothes whether you are green-minded or not, so I did some googling and found this fabulous little brand which has just launched in the UK – MELT LAUNDRY SHEETS – all the competitors are based state-side from what I found so I was excited to find a brand in the UK as the makes my brand choice more Eco again – which I love as I always try and tick as many boxes as possible in the Eco space 🙂

But before we get into all the details of all the stuff here’s my unboxing video…

Unboxing Video:

Here’s a bit about them as a company:

Why we care about laundry

Melt first came about because we care about laundry. Having worked in the industry developing premium fabric care products for international retailers and brands we realised we cared a little too much about laundry. Too much to carry on using traditional laundry liquids and powders. So, we developed our own.

Zero waste, zero toxic chemicals

Instead of harmful, toxic chemicals we created a formulation that combines charged nanoparticles and patented “target” bio-enzymes. We wanted to create a product that was quick, safe, and easy to use – unlike traditional laundry detergents. A product that left no residue that was also biodegradable, light to transport, and created zero waste – unlike traditional laundry detergents

Bringing laundry care into the 21st century.

We wanted to bring laundry care into the 21st century. Effective, environmentally friendly, and perfectly packaged, we have even brought the way you buy it up to date. We wanted to simplify the whole process so, like everything else in life, you can order it on a subscription basis that suits you.

The future of laundry care fits through your letterbox.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

Welcome to the future of Laundry Care:

Unlike old-school liquids, pods, or powders that are heavy, bulky, and full of toxic chemicals, Melt laundry detergent strips weigh next to nothing and naturally eat the dirt and stains on your clothes.

Melt laundry strips actually work at a nano level to clean clothes unlike any other detergent in the market.

On all cycles and temperatures.

Melt Laundry

My Review:

So the concept behind laundry strips is to remove all the water from the product meaning vastly reduced packaging which helps with the environmental impact of this product through reduced packaging meaning that it weighs so much less and is physically so much smaller and therefore is easier, cheaper and more environmentally friendly to ship around, it also takes up so much less space in your cupboard too and is available in travel packs to easily pop in your suitcase on holiday.

I love that this is a start-up company based in the UK as I always like to support such companies. Melt Laundry is also working with The Trussell Trust to help make these laundry strips available to Food Banks so that regardless of income level this method for washing laundry is available to all and will, therefore, hopefully, will genuinely become a cross-over product regardless of whether you are green-minded or not, and this my friends is exactly how you make Green Mainstream.

I love that they have thought so much about making the ingredients in this product both as natural and effective but also as deliciously smelling as possible so you don’t lose that just-washed freshness to coin a phrase.

In terms of the packaging – it is great that is such a small box and easily fits through your letterbox, and the message which Melt is pushing on the packaging is to encourage their customers to re-use their packaging in creative ways and to share on social so that everyone can get ideas using the hashtag #meltcreate which they will then share to their profile to show off for you tagging you, this is all fab, however, due to the film on the outside of the pack the packaging is currently categorised as Plastic Recycling Symbols #5: PP, which is good that it is recyclable but customers do need to check where and how to recycle it, it would be great if, in the future, the packaging were just recyclable card – but the company openly admits this is an ambition for the product in the future and they an ever-evolving start-up company :). Something else which would like to be looked at in the future is some sort of child-safety mechanism on the pack as it is coming through the letterbox – I have mentioned this to the company and again they say they are open to this for a future iteration of the product 🙂 So I am happy that these things are very much on the companies agenda for the future, and I welcome the fact that they admit to being a work in progress as we all are.

You can purchase 60 washes worth of strips over either a 3 week/ 4 week/ 5 week period for £12. (discount code below)

How do they REDUCE:

  • They remove all the water from their product to create a concentrated product which physically takes up much less space
  • They remove the nasty chemicals which are so often included in laundry detergent
  • They reduce their packaging down to the minimum required: the box which is used for postage is not inside any other box, there is just one box and that is it, no extra tape or packaging

How do they encourage REUSING:

They encourage you to re-use the box for other purposes once finished with and use the hashtag #meltcreate to share with the community of other Melt Customers

How do they encourage RECYCLING:

The box is recyclable Plastic Recycling Symbols #5: PP
