This month we’ve been gifted a lovely selection of socks from the SockShop.co.uk; 2 pairs of adult bamboo socks (one of which is Pride Rainbow), 1 pair of Happy Sock Co organic cotton kids socks, & 2 pairs kids of Disney Pixar Toy Story socks:

Packaging:
I’d first, as ever, like to take a moment to appreciate the eco friendly packaging my socks came in; environmentally friendly, plastic free, recyclable, and paper sourced from sustainable forests, thank you for making the effort to think about your packaging 🙂

Unboxing/ Review Video:
The two adult pairs of socks I’m testing this time are both bamboo, I love bamboo socks and here’s why:

Bamboo fabric is similar to the softness of silk. Since the fibres are without chemical treatment, they are naturally smoother and rounder with no sharp spurs to irritate the skin, making bamboo fabric hypoallergenic and perfect for those who experience allergic reactions to other natural fibres such as wool or hemp. On that same note, bamboo is also antibacterial and antifungal. This is because bamboo possesses an anti-bacteria and bacteriostatic bio-agent called “Bamboo Kun”, allowing it to naturally flourish and grow in the wild without the use of pesticides or fertilizers. This beneficial quality of the plant remains in its textile form, killing all bacteria keeping the wearer feeling fresher and odour free for longer, making the garment healthier and more hygienic.
Unlike many of the other fabrics, bamboo is extremely breathable. The natural bamboo plant keeps itself cool in the heat and like its other properties, is also maintained in its fabric form. The cross-section of the bamboo fibre is covered with micro-gaps giving the fabric better moisture absorption and ventilation. As a result, it is able to keep the wearer almost two degrees cooler in the heat and noticeably warmer in the cold. Bamboo fabric is also “anti static and UV protective as it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays” providing the wearer with another beneficial quality from bamboo made clothing.

So basically it is a super-fabric – It does so much good, its 100% natural and very sustainable – win win win!

Each boxed set features colourful but plain, block Colourburst socks with music themed names, and a couple of well-selected fun styles thrown in too! We’re loving the Pride gift box option!
The other big benefit of these socks is what they’re made of. Besides a smooth, natural silky-soft feel, bamboo fibre hold colours more sharply then other yarns. Bamboo is inherently antibacterial and hypoallergenic, shunning odour-causing bacteria to keep skin healthy, and fresh for longer. Drier too, as bamboo is superb at moisture handling, and able to keep an even internal temperature for constant foot comfort.
RAINBOW FLAG: The colours reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ community, as the flag is often used as a symbol of gay pride during LGBTQ rights marches. While this use of the rainbow flag originated in San Francisco, it is now used worldwide.

I love rainbows, they make me happy, especially so during lock down when people started drawing/ displaying them everywhere as a sign of both solidarity and support of th NHS, but I also love rainbows as a means of looking at all race, genders and sexualities, there is so much about the human condition which is a sliding scale and in my humble opinion we should be celebrating all the colours of the rainbow and look for what we have in common rather than things to clash on, this too is why I love the #loveislove campaign and wholeheartedly agree with it, love should always be celebrated regardless of if its between a man and a woman, a man and a man, or a woman and woman or all the different sliding scales in between. 🙂 So I’m very happy to wear these socks with pride to help promote this.
Kids Socks:

The first of the kids socks I’m testing are from:

TWO FRIENDS WITH A VISION
Mikael Söderlindh and Viktor Tell had a vision: to spread happiness by turning an everyday essential into a colorful design piece. In 2008, socks were just socks. White, gray and black pieces of textile that were nowhere close to the fashionable and creative design piece they could become. But that was all about to change.
HELLO, HAPPY SOCKS
Happy Socks, a high-quality sock that combines unique designs and craftsmanship. (Probably) The world’s most comfortable and colorful tool for spreading happiness was born. This concept is now brought to life by Happy Socks’ talented team of creatives.

No boring red fire engines for these socks… or for the kids wearing them! Boys and Girls Happy Socks Fire Truck Cotton Socks are creative Swedish designs that are bright and fun, with fire truck motifs in a whole range of sizzling hot shades.
Happy Socks Fire Truck Cotton Socks are made using a quality organic cotton rich blend that make them silky-soft, light and comfortable. With mixed colour contrast toes, cuffs and heels to add even more clashes, these are seriously wild and crazy kids’ socks.
I just love how bright and cheery their socks are they are made from organic cotton, here’s some facts about why it is better than non organic cotton:

Finally I tested these really sweet Toy Story socks, because I knew the boys would love them:

FABRIC:
63% Organic Cotton 23% Nylon 12% Elastane 2% Elastodiene
NUMBER IN PACK:
2 Pair Pack
FEATURES
- Smooth toe seams
- Standard cuffs
- Woody and Buzz Lightyear costume designs; Toy Story logo grip; BPA-free tread; Machine wash warm
- Thickness: Regular
The USP {Unique Selling Point} of these socks, aside from their oh so cute design was that they have grip spot on the bottom, I don’t know about the rest of you but my boys seem to be getting more and more loopy by the day at the moment and just love speeding around wherever they go and wherever they go has mainly hard floors, so having socks with grips is definitely a plus and these are such a lovely design and instantly recognisable as you can see from the video above.
So in summary I would recommend all these socks and for all different reasons 🙂
